Ethan Turner - Mitzvah Project

MY Mitzvah Project

I decided to do my Mitzvah project by volunteering at DARG in Hout Bay.

DARG is a pro-life, non-profit organization that rescues, cares for, sterilizes and rehomes previously abused, neglected and abandoned cats and dogs.

DARG also looks after these cats and dogs when they are in need of treatment and rehabilitation. They rely on the public’s generosity and support.

I went to DARG during the school holidays and took along my friend Roan, who is also an animal lover. We had to clean out the cat and kitten shelters, clean the litter boxes (a very stinky job) and mop the floors. Thank goodness they gave us gloves! We made sure they had clean blankets and fresh water.

We also had to wash the litter boxes in big outside baths and sweep up outside.

After all this hard work, we were rewarded by being allowed to take the puppies out to play. They are so cute and it was really difficult to leave them behind when we had to leave.

There are so many dedicated people that work at DARG every day, making sure that the hundreds of dogs and cats are well looked after.

There are many ways to help at DARG: Adopt, sponsor, donate, volunteer or fundraise. We can all do something to make a difference, no matter how small, and I will definitely be back in the future to help out where ever I can.
