Temple Israel Cape Town is once again proud to present its hybrid services and events for the High Holy Days 5787/ 2026, and you don't have to be a member of the congregation to join. 

Elul is the month during which we hear the shofar daily and when we spiritually prepare ourselves for the
High Holy Days.

Yizkor Memorial Service - Yom Kippur afternoon at 5pm

It is a time-honoured custom to recall the memory of our loved ones by reading their names at the Yizkor service.

The shofar is blown every morning at the end of the daily shacharit service (except on Shabbat) from the First of Elul until the Twenty-Eighth of Elul so that shofar is not blown on the day before Rosh HaShanah which is on the First of Tishre. (the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar)

The month of Elul is the sixth month of the Hebrew calendar, the month before Rosh HaShanah. Elul is a month of preparation for the Yamim Nora’im during which we blow the shofar and begin the process of introspection and self-evaluation.
