67th Shul AGM held in Green Point
The 67th AGM of Temple Israel was held in Green Point on the 4th December. The President’s report highlighted a number of achievements during the year which included hugely successful events and services around the chaggim, massive improvements in our education programmes and continued success in our Shabbat Magic and Chessed services. The treasurer’s report was next and highlighted a very successful year where our actual loss was far less than originally budgeted and improvements would continue into the coming year. The congregation then elected Mr Simon Jocum as the second elder and Mrs Helga Sandak-Lewin as trustee of the congregation. After a short tea break, the congregation once again gathered to discuss the very controversial and complicated subject of Patrilineal Descent. After detailed discussion around the source sheet provided by Rabbi Malcolm Matitiani (please click here if you would like to view it) the members present still felt that further investigation has to take place before a decision can be taken to the next SAUPJ conference in June 2012.
If I am not for myself, who will be for me? But if I am only for myself, who am I? If not now, when. Hillel, Pirkei Avot 1:14
